2009 UGS Jubilee Banquet, RUAS, Balmoral

The Ulster Grassland Society (UGS) celebrated its Golden Jubilee at the Balmoral Conference Centre on Thursday 26 November 2009, fifty years to the day after the inaugural meeting of the Society.

UGS President, Roy McClenaghan, welcomed a large gathering of members, family and friends.   Between courses former Presidents Alastair McGuckian, Derek Shaw, Robin Morrow CBE, Campbell Tweed OBE and Dr Rosemary Agnew, recounted some of highlights from former decades.

Also attending were Philip Clarke, Chairman of the Fermanagh Grassland Club and Dr Andrew Cromie, President of the Irish Grassland Association.

The backdrop to the banquet was a real trip down memory lane, as throughout the meal diners could watch an amazing rolling presentation of photographs which had been taken throughout the 50 years of the Society. This was only possible thanks to the work of Dr Michael Camlin, UGS Treasurer, who compiled the collection.  To view the slide show Press HERE

Following the meal Howard Petch CBE, who spent his life working with the agricultural industry and rural community in the North of England, was a lively and highly entertaining after dinner speaker.
