2020 Grassland Innovation Awards Competition
Due to Corona virus restrictions the Society was unable to run the Grassland Farmer of the Year Competition
So as an alternative, with support from Danske Bank we launched the Ulster Grassland Society/ Danske Bank Grassland Innovation Awards competition.
Sponsored by Danske Bank, the awards are seeking to celebrate all things innovation by capturing the on-farm inventions and ideas that are helping local farmers be progressive and efficient.
Applications for the competition took the form of a short video and the scope of the competition allowed for a wide range of ideas to be submitted. From novel devices for grazing infrastructure, to different ways of managing grazing or establishing swards, to new methods for monitoring animal performance.
A wide range of entries were received and winner was James Henderson a beef and sheep farmer from Kilkeel. There were also 2 highly commended entries; those of Dairy farmers Albert O’Neil and Andrew Wright.
