The Ulster Grassland Society held its 2022 Annual Conference virtually over two nights – Tuesday 22nd February and Thursday 24th February.  Both nights were well attend to hear 4 speakers give presentations on the conference theme ” “Efficiency driving a Lower Carbon Footprint”.

On Tuesday 22nd the AGM was followed by presentations by Dr Steven Morrison, Head of Livestock Production Sciences at AFBI and Billy O’Kane a beef producer from near Ballymena. Dr Steven Morrison, gave a brief background to carbon footprinting and an overview of some mitigations we can do now. Billy O’Kane told us of how he carried out a Carbon Audit of farm.

On Thursday 24th February the second part of the webinar was presented by

  1. Prof. Gary Lanigan, Research Officer with Teagasc, Johnstown Castle, Co. Wexford and Hugh Harbison, a dairy farmer from Aghadowey. Following the two presentations, the awards for the UGS Grassland farmer of the year were presented by Dr Debbie McConnell, UGS Competitions Secretary.
